Camp Vertica is designed for motivated youth climbers train indoors and are ready to take their skills outside. We are looking specifically for U13/U15 climbers (ages 11-14) who can climb V4+ for our middle school group and U15/U18 climbers (ages 14-17) who can climb V6+ for our high school group. Set in the beautiful boulder fields of Grayson Highlands State Park, Buckeye Knob and other areas surrounding Boone, campers learn how to transfer their gym strength and technique onto real rock while building confidence, refining movement skills, and developing smart decision-making in a natural environment. With a 1:3 camper to staff ratio and coaching from experienced youth team leaders, every climber receives personalized instruction in outdoor bouldering progression, spotting, risk awareness, and problem-solving, transforming strong gym climbers into capable, confident outdoor athletes.

Stewardship is at the heart of Camp Vertica. Campers don’t just climb, they learn how to care for the places they love. Through hands-on Leave No Trace education, outdoor ethics discussions, and daily practice in responsible recreation, climbers develop respect for shared spaces and the climbing community. From protecting mountain ecosystems to modeling positive crag behavior, campers grow into thoughtful, community-minded athletes who understand that being a great climber also means being a great steward.

For one unforgettable week, campers unplug and immerse themselves in mountain life: camping, hiking, and climbing high in the open alpine landscape of Grayson Highlands State Park. They’ll explore endless granite boulders, hike scenic trails, build wilderness skills, take on team challenges, and maybe even spot the park’s famous wild ponies. Every day blends skill-building with pure adventure, creating a summer experience that’s as fun and friendship filled as it is growth oriented.
